REMOTE MAGNETIC TARGETED THERAPEUTICS FOR PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
The main objective of this study is to develop targeted therapeutics based on functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as carriers for bioactive growth factor (GF) cocktail optimized for peripheral nerve injury regeneration. Using magnetic manipulations the MNPs will be remotely guided to the injury site, while keeping them on-site for long-term exposure. For proof of concept of the regenerative capacity of the new method, the focus will be placed on a crush lesion of the sciatic nerve (axonotmesis), a form of nerve injury which today cannot be actively treated.
