From May 2025 I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Pisa in the Italian scientific sector Zooculture SSD AGRI-09/D (Aquaculture, Poultry and Rabbit Science).
My main research focuses deal with Animal Sciences, mostly in relation to the rearing technique and the production of poultry, rabbit, aquaculture animals and edible insects.
From December 2022 I have played the role of International Coordinator (CAI) of the Department of Veterinary Sciences and participated in several mobilities in the KA 131 and 171 projects.
I graduated in 2010 in Agro-Industrial Biotechnology (bachelor) and in October 2012 I obtained a master degree in Food Science and Technology with honours. Then, in 2015, I was awarded a PhD in Veterinary Sciences at the University of Pisa. During my PhD, I dealt with livestock science, focusing mainly on meat quality. In 2016, I also graduated from the Second-level Professional Master’s Programme in Food Science: quality, safety and human nutrition.
During my PhD, I was a visiting scholar for four months (2014) at the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and in 2016, I spent six months in Spain at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC – Spanish National Research Council) of Vigo.
In 2016, as a Fixed-term Researcher at the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Pisa, I started a new research line on the edible insects topic, focusing mainly on the rearing technique and the nutritional values of the products intended as both feed and food. I am also the contact point of Pisa University at the International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed (IPIFF).
I co-authored more than 90 publications, including full-length articles and reviews in international peer-reviewed journals, and I presented at international congresses. I serve as a reviewer for international journals.
