I am a political scientist whose research focuses on gender, social movements, protest, and democratic transformations in Europe. My work lies at the intersection of political science and gender studies, and examines how gender shapes contentious politics, political participation, movement strategies, alliances, and backlash against equality. I have contributed to international debates through concepts such as contentious gender politics, democratic embodiment, and the symbiotic relationship between anti-gender actors and populist radical right parties. My book Protesting Gender: The LGBTIQ Movement and its Opponents in Italy (Routledge, 2020) offered the first systematic analysis of LGBTIQ activism and anti-gender mobilization in Italy.
I regularly collaborate with European institutions, international organizations, NGOs, and foundations on research and policy-oriented work concerning youth participation, gender equality, democratic participation, and vulnerable groups. My research has been supported by competitive fellowships and international collaborations with institutions including University Complutense of Madrid, University of Oxford, and COSMOS, and I currently serve in steering committees and coordinating roles within the Italian Political Science Association and the ECPR Standing Group on Participation and Mobilization.
