My research activity focuses mainly on small area estimation methods. When the sample size in a domain or geographic area is small (usually unplanned in the survey design), then standard estimation techniques may produce estimates with unacceptable large variances (unreliable). Small area methods try to produce reliable estimates, usually by means of model-based estimators.
