Scientific research is at the core of the institutional mission of a botanic garden. The main fields of investigation in which the Botanic Garden and Museum of the University of Pisa is involved are:
- Systematics, Taxonomy and Nomenclature
- Biodiversity and Floristics
- Phytochemistry
- Conservation and Climate Change
- History of Botany
The Botanic Garden’s most productive collaboration is with the PLANTSEED Lab of the Department of Biology (University of Pisa).
In 2018 we established a dedicated collection displaying selected specimens involved in research activities.

The species included in the ‘Plants in research’ collection can be explored through our online documentation system, U-plant DISCOVER.
