Prof. Grazia Totaro is the Head of the Sus-Chem Group at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry (DCCI), University of Pisa, where she serves as an Associate Professor of Industrial Chemistry.
Her research activities focus on polymer science, with particular emphasis on the development of sustainable polymeric materials. Her main research interests include:
- Synthesis and characterization of novel polymers and copolymers, particularly polyesters and polyamides derived from renewable resources, for applications such as sustainable packaging and cosmetics.
- Synthesis, functionalization, and modification of inorganic nanostructures, including layered double hydroxides (LDHs), montmorillonite, and graphene, for the development of multifunctional composites and nanocomposites.
- Design, preparation, and characterization of multifunctional polymer nanocomposites through in situ polymerization and melt blending for advanced applications, including packaging and cosmetic formulations.
- Stabilization and controlled incorporation of thermolabile molecules into polymeric matrices.
- Valorization of biomass-derived waste as functional fillers and reinforcements for polymer composites.
- Sustainable end-of-life strategies for polymers, including recycling, biodegradation, and circular economy approaches.
