Ciao!
Sono un geologo che si occupa principalmente di ricostruzioni paleoclimatiche tramite depositi carbonatici. Il mio interesse scientifico primario è comprendere come il clima dell’area Mediterranea (e non solo) risponda a variazioni climatiche globali. Studio inoltre il ruolo del clima nell’evoluzione umana, sia in ambito preistorico che storico.
Al momento (2024) sono impegnato nel progetto ERC-Synergy LAST NEANDERTHALS, che ha come obbiettivo l’elaborazione di una teoria esauriente riguardo la scomparsa dell’uomo di Neanderthal. Dirigo anche una unità di ricerca del progetto PRIN-PNRR PROMETHEUS, che mira a ricostruire la frequenza di incendi boschivi naturali nel recente passato geologico e quale sia il ruolo del clima a riguardo.

Presso in Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra dell’Università di Pisa sono titolare del corso Paleoclimatologia Isotopica e codocente per i corsi Paleoclimatologia Generale e Laboratorio di Paleoclimatologia. Nel brench UniPi a Tashkent (Uzbekistan) insegno Introductory Geology – Exogenous Processes and Geochemistry.

Hello!
I am a geologist primarily focused on paleoclimate reconstructions through carbonate deposits. My main scientific interest is understanding how the climate of the Mediterranean area (and beyond) responds to global climate variations. I also study the role of climate in human evolution, both in prehistoric and historical contexts.
Currently (2024), I am involved in the ERC-Synergy LAST NEANDERTHALS project, which aims to develop a comprehensive theory regarding the disappearance of Neanderthals. I also lead a research unit in the PRIN-PNRR PROMETHEUS project, which aims to reconstruct the frequency of natural wildfires in the recent geological past and the role of climate in this context.

At the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Pisa, I teach Isotopic Paleoclimatology and I am co-lecturer for General Paleoclimatology and Laboratory of Paleoclimatology. At the UniPi branch in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) I teach Introductory Geology – Exogenous Processes and Geochemistry.
