{"id":83,"date":"2016-03-17T12:45:44","date_gmt":"2016-03-17T11:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/?p=83"},"modified":"2016-03-17T12:45:44","modified_gmt":"2016-03-17T11:45:44","slug":"results-of-the-mit-unipi-project-at-the-materials-research-society-meeting-phoenix-usa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/results-of-the-mit-unipi-project-at-the-materials-research-society-meeting-phoenix-usa\/","title":{"rendered":"Results of the MIT-UNIPI project at the Materials Research Society meeting (Phoenix USA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a result of an ongoing project of cooperation between the <strong>University of Pisa<\/strong> and the <strong>Massachusetts Institute of Technology<\/strong> of Boston (<strong>USA<\/strong>), in the frame of the project entitled:<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00abE<\/b><b>nergy<\/b> <b>Storage Devices and Actuators based on Composites of Liquid Crystal <\/b><b>Elastomers<\/b><b>\u00bb<\/b><\/p>\n<p>I will present a contribution at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrs.org\/spring-2016-symposium-sessions\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Materials Research Society<\/strong><\/a> meeting in Phoenix (<strong>USA<\/strong>) from the 28th to the 1st of April 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/unipi.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-86\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-86\" src=\"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/unipi.jpg\" alt=\"unipi\" width=\"173\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"https:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/unipi.jpg 173w, https:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/unipi-60x60.jpg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 173px) 100vw, 173px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/mit.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-88\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-88\" src=\"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2016\/03\/mit.jpg\" alt=\"mit\" width=\"286\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This research is the result of a cooperation between the group of me (UNIPI) and Prof. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kolpak.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alexie Kolpak<\/a><\/strong> (MIT) and her collaborators (Dr. <strong>Giuseppe Romano<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The focus point of this research is the optimization of bilayered composites based on liquid crystalline elastomers and conductive layers, in order to understand the basic molecular features at the origin of the thermal-actuation of these bilayered systems.\u00a0 These composites can act as bending actuators and they have a high shape-response when either temperature is varied in a controlled way or low voltages are appplied.
