{"id":112,"date":"2016-10-23T16:22:35","date_gmt":"2016-10-23T14:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/?p=112"},"modified":"2016-10-23T16:22:35","modified_gmt":"2016-10-23T14:22:35","slug":"le-nostre-ricerche-su-nature-communications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/people.unipi.it\/valentina_domenici\/le-nostre-ricerche-su-nature-communications\/","title":{"rendered":"Le nostre ricerche su Nature Communications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>E&#8217; uscito il 7 ottobre scorso l&#8217;articolo &#8220;<em>Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal elastomers<\/em>&#8221; sulla rivista &#8220;<strong>Nature Communications<\/strong>&#8220;, risultato di un lavoro di diversi anni svolto in collaborazione con il &#8220;<em>Josef Stefan Institute<\/em>&#8221; di Lubiana (Slovenia).<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;articolo (consultabile al link:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/ncomms13140\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/ncomms13140<\/a>) riporta la realizzazione di un nuovo materiale a base di elastomeri liquido cristallini, gi\u00e0 noti come &#8220;<em>smart materials<\/em>&#8221; e in particolare come &#8220;muscoli artificiali&#8221;. Le propriet\u00e0 pi\u00f9 interessanti degli elastomeri liquido cristallini consiste infatti nel poter modificare la forma in modo reversibile e controllato, cambiando ad esempio la temperatura. Questa variazione di forma \u00e8 per\u00f2 limitata ad un &#8220;allungamento\/accorciamento&#8221; reversibile, secondo una simmetria uniassiale.<\/p>\n<p>Il nuovo materiale composito, sinteticamente chiamato <strong>PDLCE<\/strong> (<em>Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal elastomers<\/em>), \u00e8 un materiale composto di due componenti\u00a0&#8220;<em>soft<\/em>&#8220;. Delle microparticelle di elastomero liquido cristallino sono disperse in un polimero amorfo secondo un rapporto ben preciso a formare una miscela semifluida. Successivamente, la miscela viene scaldata e sottoposta ad un campo magnetico esterno, che ha la funzione di allineare le microparticelle liquido cristalline. Il materiale, una volta raffreddato, conserva la &#8220;memoria&#8221; di questa particolare preparazione e \u00a0se sottoposto a nuovo riscaldamento modifica la forma in modo totalmente reversibile.<\/p>\n<p>I vantaggi di questi materiali PDLCE riguardano sia la <strong>preparazione<\/strong>, molto pi\u00f9 semplice di quella degli elastomeri liquido cristallini, sia la possibilit\u00e0 di avere deformazioni con <strong>geometrie e simmetrie<\/strong> diverse.<\/p>\n<p>Per quanto riguarda la preparazione, i nuovi PDLCE\u00a0possono essere fatti utilizzando forme e dimensioni che possono essere scelte in base all&#8217;uso finale che se ne vuol fare. Per questo \u00e8 possibile pensare ad un utilizzo immediato con\u00a0la tecnologia della stampa di oggetti 3D.
