Research Interests<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My main research interests include Geoarchaeology<\/strong>, Coastal Geomorphology<\/strong>, and Glacial Geomorphology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the field of geoarchaeology<\/strong>, my work is grounded in a strongly integrated, multidisciplinary approach that combines remote sensing<\/strong>, geomorphological and geophysical investigations<\/strong>, historical cartography<\/strong>, topographic data<\/strong>, and stratigraphic and tephrostratigraphic analyses<\/strong>. Several studies have focused on specific archaeological sites, while others have examined broader archaeological landscapes such as the urban area of Pisa<\/strong>, the Apuo-Versilian coastal plain<\/strong>, and the Cheyan alluvial plain<\/strong> (Turkey). Urban settlements have also been investigated to develop predictive models for the distribution of archaeological heritage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the field of coastal geomorphology<\/strong>, my research addresses both palaeogeographic reconstruction<\/strong> and past sea-level changes<\/strong> in various coastal areas of the Mediterranean Basin<\/strong> (e.g., the Cilento coast<\/strong>, Uluzzo Bay<\/strong>, the Arno and Magra plains<\/strong>, and the Cheyan alluvial plain<\/strong> in Turkey), as well as in the Patagonian coastal plain<\/strong> (Argentina). A key aspect of this research is the identification and interpretation of new palaeo sea-level markers<\/strong>, such as abrasive notches<\/strong>, biological encrustations<\/strong>, and barnacle assemblages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the field of glacial geomorphology<\/strong>, I have focused on the recognition of palaeoglacial landforms<\/strong> in southern Europe<\/strong>, including the Apuan Alps<\/strong> (Italy) and the Galicica<\/strong>, Mavrovo<\/strong>, Pelister<\/strong>, and Jakupica<\/strong> massifs (North Macedonia). This work is part of the ICDP SCOPSCO international project<\/strong>, which aims to reconstruct the palaeoclimate of the Mediterranean and Balkan regions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All these activities\u2014across geoarchaeology, coastal and glacial geomorphology\u2014contribute to improving palaeoenvironmental reconstructions<\/strong> and enhancing our understanding of human\u2013environment interactions over time<\/strong>. Particular emphasis has been placed on the impacts of both natural and anthropogenic climate change<\/strong> during the Holocene<\/strong>, especially in relation to the 4.2 ka BP Event<\/strong> and the Roman Period<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In recent years, my research has increasingly focused on the evolution of floodplains<\/strong>, the development of early warning systems<\/strong> for riverine and coastal flooding<\/strong>, and the protection of water resources<\/strong> through the use of Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>. In all areas of my work, I integrate reconstructions of past environmental dynamics<\/strong> to identify current trends<\/strong> and outline<\/strong> possible future scenarios<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
